LVP Flooring in Garner, NC -- Luxury Vinyl Plank and Tile

Burch Brothers Flooring installs luxury vinyl plank flooring for homeowners and businesses across Garner, Raleigh, and the surrounding Triangle area. LVP flooring is a rigid-core, 100% waterproof vinyl flooring option built from a wear layer bonded to a stone or wood composite core. It handles moisture, pets, and heavy foot traffic better than laminate or hardwood, and our installers can set it over most existing subfloors without extensive prep. What Is LVP Flooring?

What is luxury vinyl plank flooring? LVP stands for luxury vinyl plank. Each plank consists of three primary layers: a printed design layer that mimics wood grain or stone, a rigid core made from stone plastic composite (SPC) or wood plastic composite (WPC), and a wear layer on top that protects against scratches, stains, and daily use.

SPC cores blend limestone and polyvinyl chloride into a dense, stable luxury vinyl plank that resists dents and handles temperature fluctuations well. This matters in central North Carolina, where summers are humid and below-grade spaces can run significantly cooler. WPC cores add a foaming agent that makes the luxury vinyl softer and quieter underfoot, which suits living rooms and bedrooms where comfort takes priority.

Both core types are 100% waterproof through the entire plank. They will not swell, warp, or buckle when exposed to standing water, which sets them apart from traditional laminate and solid hardwood.

LVP vs Laminate Flooring

What is the difference between LVP and laminate flooring? The core distinction is water resistance. LVP is 100% waterproof from the wear layer down to the backing. Laminate uses a high-density fiberboard core that absorbs moisture and swells when water sits beneath the planks or seeps into the joints. For kitchens, bathrooms, basements, and laundry rooms, LVP flooring is the more reliable choice.

Laminate has a harder melamine wear layer, which makes it more resistant to deep scratches from pet claws. If scratch resistance is the primary concern and the room stays dry, laminate holds a practical edge. Luxury vinyl plank with a 20-mil or thicker wear layer narrows that gap considerably for most households.

Both products float over the subfloor without glue or nails in most residential applications. In our experience installing both across Garner and Raleigh homes, entry-level LVP and laminate start around 2 to 4 per square foot for materials. Premium luxury vinyl options with thicker wear layers and more realistic print profiles run 5 to 8 and above, depending on the product line.

We carry and install both flooring types across Garner and Raleigh. For costs, styles, and installation details specific to laminate, visit our laminate flooring installation page.

LVP vs Tile

Tile is harder and virtually scratch-proof, but it is cold and unyielding underfoot. Luxury vinyl provides comparable waterproof performance in most residential settings with a warmer feel and noticeably quieter sound profile. Where tile requires grout lines that collect mildew and need periodic sealing, LVP flooring clicks together with no grout, which reduces long-term maintenance.

For bathrooms and wet areas where water pools at seams consistently, fully grouted and sealed tile still has an advantage. In kitchens, mudrooms, entryways, and basements, luxury vinyl flooring performs equally well and installs faster, with no curing time and far less mess.

Tile vinyl installation comparisons come down to budget and timeline. LVP flooring can often be completed in a single day, and the floor is ready for foot traffic immediately after the work is done.

Does LVP Need Underlayment?

Does luxury vinyl plank flooring need underlayment? Most rigid-core LVP products come with underlayment already bonded to the back of each plank. If your luxury vinyl includes attached padding, no separate underlayment is needed; adding one can actually destabilize the locking joints.

If the LVP you select does not have attached padding, a thin underlayment layer (typically 1 to 2mm) is recommended. It smooths minor subfloor imperfections and reduces sound transmission between floors, which matters in two-story homes or any room above a basement.

When installing over a concrete slab, common in Garner homes built on grade-level foundations along US 70 and the Ten-Ten Road corridor, a vapor barrier is essential beneath the LVP. Concrete releases moisture upward, and even waterproof vinyl planks benefit from vapor protection to prevent condensation issues at the subfloor level.

Our LVP Installation Process

Our flooring installation in Garner follows a consistent process developed over more than 30 years of work in homes across Wake County and the broader Raleigh area. Before installing vinyl, our installers thoroughly examine the flooring surface and subfloor for moisture, levelness, and structural integrity. Our team brings all necessary tools and handles every step in-house.

Subfloor prep: We address soft spots, high points, and debris before the first plank goes down. A flat, stable base is the most critical factor in a long-lasting LVP installation.

Acclimation and layout: LVP needs time to reach equilibrium with the room’s temperature and humidity. We plan the layout to minimize slivers at walls and account for transitions between rooms.

Floating installation: Luxury vinyl planks lock together using the manufacturer’s click profile. No glue or fasteners in most residential applications. We maintain the required expansion gap at every wall and vertical surface.

Trim and cleanup: Baseboards, quarter-round, and transition strips are installed before we consider the job finished. We remove all material waste and job-site debris before we leave.

LVP Flooring for Pets and High Traffic

LVP is one of the most practical luxury vinyl flooring choices for homes with dogs, cats, or active kids. The waterproof construction means pet accidents clean up from the surface without soaking into the subfloor. There is no risk of the odor-trapping moisture damage that permanently ruins laminate or hardwood when spills are not caught immediately.

For scratch resistance, wear layer thickness is the deciding factor. A 12-mil wear layer handles light to moderate pet traffic. For medium to large dogs in rooms that see daily activity, a 20-mil or thicker luxury vinyl wear layer is worth the added cost. Products rated AC4 or higher on the Abrasion Criteria scale hold up better where claws make consistent contact with the surface.

Matte and low-sheen finishes are what most homeowners in the Triangle are requesting right now, and they are easier to maintain because they do not show every paw print or shoe scuff between cleanings. Families in Vandora Springs, Heather Hills, Forest Hills, and other active Garner neighborhoods consistently choose LVP for this combination of durability and low maintenance.

Luxury Vinyl Tile (LVT)

Luxury vinyl tile (LVT) uses the same rigid-core waterproof construction as LVP but cuts the material into square or rectangular tile shapes rather than long planks. Installing LVT follows the same process as installing LVP: no grout, no adhesive in most cases, no curing time.

LVT carries the same waterproof performance through the full thickness of the product. We carry LVT collections from Mohawk and Shaw Floors that replicate ceramic, stone, and patterned tile at a lower cost and with better underfoot comfort than traditional ceramic. If you want a luxury vinyl tile look in a bathroom or mudroom, LVT delivers that aesthetic without the cold surface or grout maintenance of real tile.

LVP Care and Maintenance

How do you care for luxury vinyl plank flooring? LVP flooring care is straightforward compared to hardwood or tile. The vinyl surface does not require waxing, polishing, or refinishing. Regular vinyl care keeps the floor looking new for years.

For daily vinyl care, sweep or vacuum to remove grit and debris that can scratch the wear layer. Use a soft-bristle attachment when vacuuming; rotating brush rolls can scuff the luxury vinyl surface over time. Damp mop with a pH-neutral cleaner formulated specifically for vinyl flooring. Avoid steam mops, which force moisture into the locking joints and can lift the attached underlayment.

For spills and pet accidents, wipe up immediately. LVP flooring is waterproof through the plank, but standing liquid can seep into seams at the edges near walls if left too long. Use felt pads under furniture legs to prevent pressure marks. For additional vinyl resources and product care guides, ask our team at your in-home consultation; we cover LVP care as part of every installation walkthrough.

LVP Flooring Installation FAQ

Here are the questions Garner homeowners ask us most often about our expert LVP flooring installation.

How long does LVP flooring installation take?

Most single-room projects take one day. Whole-home or multi-room installations typically run two to three days, depending on the square footage and the amount of subfloor preparation required. We give you a specific timeline at the consultation.

Can LVP be installed over existing floors?

In many cases, yes. Rigid-core luxury vinyl floats over existing tile, sheet vinyl, and concrete as long as the surface is flat, firm, and structurally sound. We evaluate your existing floors during the in-home visit.

Is LVP flooring worth it?

For most Garner and Raleigh homeowners who want a waterproof, low-maintenance floor with a realistic wood or stone look, LVP delivers strong long-term value. It costs less to purchase and install than hardwood and holds up better in moisture-prone rooms.

Wish there was an option for 10 stars, because they deserve it, what an amazing company to work with ♥️ I absolutely LOVE Burch Brothers Flooring, they did an amazing job!! When I called to make an appointment to have someone measure, Christine asked me about what colors I was looking for and then had Josh come out with several samples which were spot on. She listened to everything I said and Josh was extremely polite and answered all my questions I had. I got my estimate several days later only because I had a few different quotes that I was requesting. After I received my quotes and reviewed them against other companies, I decided to go with Burch Brothers because of their excellent customer service and their amazing reviews! I have to say that I am so glad that I did. I absolutely love my new floors and cannot wait to show and tell everyone!!! I am so glad that I chose Burch Brothers Flooring and I will continue to use them in the future as well as tell all my friends and family about how wonderful they are and what a great job that they all do from start to finish!!

I am very impressed with the professionalism and expertise of the staff and installers. I purchased an older home that had 60+ year old laminate flooring and carpet that needed updating/replacing. They came in, assessed my needs, and installed red oak hardwood flooring that looks absolutely gorgeous! I am very pleased and will definitely be calling them again for my flooring needs.

Wonderful experience and very professional! They make the process so easy. I called and explained what I was looking for. Burch Brothers sent someone out to look at the space and take measurements. Once that part was complete, I went up to their showroom, Sarah had some floor samples waiting on me, she worked with me, listened to me, helped me decide what would be best for the different areas of the home, and all this with absolutely NO sales pressure! Burch Brothers allowed me to take a few sample back to the house to make sure i would be happy with the flooring and colors. Once we finalized which floors and colors i liked, Sarah scheduled the install. When the installers came out, they were on time, respectful of the work space and did a great job. Once the project was complete, I was amazed at how great things looked. I did notice one area in the bathroom I wanted to see corrected, Sarah had someone there in the next couple of days getting it straight. I loved that I could actually go to a business (physical location) and talk to them , see samples, have someone assist me in the project and then them standing behind their product and install. I would give more than 5 stars if i was able to. Thank you for making my flooring project easy!

Highly recommend Burch Brothers -- if they say it, they do it. Had to replace entire condo floor after water heater leak. Working with Burch Brothers was not only easy and within budget, but everyone, from display floor to installation have been knowledgeable, friendly, prompt, capable, and went out of their way to make a stressful situation into a successful experience. Finding the right product had been difficult (visited 4 other stores in the greater Raleigh area and many on line searches), but their staff patiently helped guide my search and I am very pleased with the results. Burch Brothers is who you want to work with.
